Thursday August 30, 2018 (RBB NEWS) – Former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived this morning in Mogadishu for the first time since left office early last year.
The plane carrying Mr. Mohamud touched down at Aden Adde International Airport shortly after 8 am where he was received by Ministers, legislators, and senior government officials.
Speaking to the media upon arrival at the airport, Mr. Mohamud said he came to assess the situation of the country.
The former President stated that he would tour other parts of the country to discuss with leaders and people in different regions of the country.
“I am happy to be back in Mogadishu after 18 months that I have been away from the country, not only that I came to Mogadishu but I will visit all other regions to engage with all people in those areas,” he said.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud lost last year’s presidential poll to the incumbent president Mohamed Abdullah Farmajo.
Mr. Mohamud was a university lecturer and civil activist before he entered Somali politics in 2011.
In 2012, he was elected as Somali president and served the office until last year when he lost February 8 elections held at a hanger in Mogadishu International Airport.
