Saturday November 24, 2018 (RBB NEWS) – Ottawa police have identified the victim of the South Keys Shopping Centre shooting death as Yonis Barkhadle, 27, of Ottawa.
Barkhadle was found in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police said the shooting occurred at about 6:30 p.m., his death was confirmed just before 10 p.m.
It was the city’s 17th homicide of the year.
By mid-evening, about seven police cruisers were clustered around a section of parking lot at the mall’s north end, between a CIBC bank and a Mucho Burrito restaurant.
The area was cordoned off with yellow tape, but the stores themselves remained open and shoppers were still busy.
One storekeeper said he saw police scanning the ground near the bank with lights as if they were looking for shell casings.

However, staff in stores near the scene said they had seen nothing of the shooting. All of the windows on those stores face east toward Bank Street, and it appeared that the shooting was just around the corner and out of sight from there.
