The commander of the 4th Battalion of the 14 October Brigade, Osman Mohamed Muse told the media the forces repulsed an attempt by Al-Shabaab on the town leading to heavy clashes but his forces managed to push away the militants inflicting casualties.

“Al-Shabaab attacked the town from four different sides using explosives-laden vehicles at about 7.10 pm,” Muse said. “Fighting lasted until 8.20pm.” He confirmed his forces killed eight militants and injured 11 others. He did not however mention any casualties on his side.

The military man said they had received intelligence about a planned attack by the militants and were ready for a counter-attack. He noted the forces were on standby and managed to respond effectively.
